Armed bandits launched a violent attack on Bakura town in Zamfara State’s Bakura Local Government Area late Sunday night, injuring at least one person and abducting several residents, according to reports shared by security expert Bakatsine.
The attackers reportedly stormed the community around 11:00 p.m., firing indiscriminately into the air to instill fear and disperse resistance.
“They came in large numbers and started shooting sporadically,” Bakatsine posted on X (formerly Twitter) early Monday morning. “Several people have been kidnapped, and one individual was seriously injured.”
Although local authorities have not yet released an official statement, residents say the situation caused panic throughout the night, with many families fleeing into surrounding bushlands for safety.
As of the time of filing this report, the exact number of abductees remains unclear.
Security forces have been reportedly deployed to the area to track down the assailants and secure the release of the victims.
Zamfara State has remained one of the epicenters of armed banditry in northern Nigeria, with communities frequently targeted by criminal gangs operating with relative impunity.
