The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has issued a stern warning to the public about scammers posing as facilitators of non-existent postgraduate scholarships.
In a statement released on Sunday, NDDC spokesperson Seledi Thompson-Wakama alerted the public to fraudulent activities targeting unsuspecting individuals. These scammers have been tricking people into paying money for scholarship placements that do not exist.
Thompson-Wakama revealed that the fraudsters were sending out deceptive emails and messages to applicants for the NDDC’s postgraduate foreign scholarship program. These fraudulent communications were purportedly from the commission’s ‘Board Registry,’ and they invited recipients to a bogus document verification exercise scheduled for May 19 to 21 at Bishop Oluwole Street, Victoria Island, Lagos.
“The NDDC has no association with this scam, and there is no such verification exercise,” Thompson-Wakama clarified.
She emphasized that all legitimate communications related to the commission’s scholarship programs are conducted exclusively through the official NDDC portal at www.scholarship.nddc.gov.ng.
Applicants are strongly advised to ignore any unsolicited messages asking for money, sensitive personal information, or offering scholarship opportunities that deviate from official NDDC procedures.
Thompson-Wakama urged anyone who encounters such fraudulent emails to report them immediately to the relevant law enforcement agencies for prompt investigation and action.
She also encouraged Nigerians interested in the NDDC’s programs to ensure they use only the official communication channels.
“Prospective applicants and former beneficiaries should verify all information through the NDDC’s official website: www.nddc.gov.ng,” she concluded.
