A residential fire broke out in the early hours of Monday, destroying a four-bedroom apartment at No. 1 Happiness Close, Akufo Estate, in the Elebu area of Ibadan, Oyo State.
The General Manager of the Oyo State Fire Services Agency, Mr. Yemi Akinyinka, confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Monday in Ibadan.
According to Akinyinka, the agency received an emergency call at exactly 1:13 a.m. and immediately dispatched a team of firefighters to the scene.
“Upon arrival, our personnel met the entire four-bedroom structure already engulfed in flames,” he said.
He noted that the fire crew acted swiftly to prevent the fire from spreading to neighboring buildings and properties, adding that the residents were safely evacuated without any injuries or fatalities.
The cause of the fire, according to Akinyinka, was traced to an overheated solar panel installed in the house. The panel reportedly ignited flammable materials nearby, resulting in the blaze.
He commended the efforts of the firefighters and emphasized the importance of proper maintenance and monitoring of electrical installations, especially alternative energy sources.
