Police return bandit attack, eliminate two in Benue community

The Benue State Police Command has repelled an attack by suspected bandits on Tse Gaagum village in Ukemberegya council ward in the Logo Local Government Area of the state.

The police, according to the report, shot dead two of the bandits during the operation.

A source who spoke with newsmen said that the gunmen stormed the village in the early hours, 4:00 am of Wednesday, and forcefully took away motorcycles and other valuables.

The source further explained that the villagers made a distress call to the security operatives who responded promptly and gave the bandits a hot pursuit.

“Luckily, a resident of the village made a call to policemen who raced to the area and succeeded in chasing them and in the process killed two of them and a Bajaaj motorcycle was recovered,” it added.

Special Adviser to the Governor on Security and Internal Affairs, Chief Joseph Har, also confirmed the incident to journalists in his office.

Har commended the security operatives for their prompt response to the distress call.

Har said, “I got the information that security men in Logo who received distress call from residents of Tse Gaagum village in the early hours of Wednesday shot dead two of the bandits who attacked the community.

“They succeeded in recovering a Bajaaj motorcycle belonging to one of the villagers.”

Efforts were made to get further information from the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, SP. Catherine Anene proved abortive.
