The Ogun State government has suspended a teacher accused of beating a Senior Secondary School 2 student, Master Monday Arijo, which allegedly led to his death.
The suspension was announced by the Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology.
The incident, which occurred on Friday at Obada Grammar School in Obada, Idi-emi, resulted in the immediate arrest of the teacher involved.
The school principal, Mrs. Tamrat Onaolapo, was also issued a formal inquiry, as she reportedly allowed corporal punishment, which goes against the state’s policies.
The principal was given 24 hours to explain her actions and justify why further disciplinary actions should not be taken against her for violating official guidelines.
The Ministry sent a condolence letter to the Arijo family, expressing sympathy over the loss of their son and promising a thorough investigation to ensure justice is served.
Signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, the letter described the late student as a remarkable individual who will be greatly missed by his peers, school, and the community.
It also wished the family strength during this difficult time and prayed for the peaceful repose of the student’s soul.
