Ebonyi State government has expressed readiness to start dry season rice farming through Irrigation method by January 2024 like other rice producing states like Kebbi, Tarabar and others in Nigeria.
The Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Mrs. Princess Nkechinyere Iyioku disclosed this whIle interacting with our reporter in her office in Abakaliki, the state capital on Friday.
She said that the project is in line with the plans of the state Governor Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru who has earlier this year assured farmers his plans to construct irrigation method across the 13 local governments areas in the State to enable the state join others ever known as a rice producing states.
She added that very soon government will start distributing farming input materials of any kind and live stock through Federal or state government and assured that if it reaches her office, either from the state or Federal government none of the real farmers will be left behind when distributing.
She also revealed that the state has concluded plan with the federal government to go into full live stock farming and stated that every farmer will receive his or her materials including the livestock farmer, as soon as it comes for distribution.
She charge members of the public to go into mechanize farming because it has become the only way one can pay attention to, in order to survive in the present hardship the society is currently facing.
