Gov. Nwifuru warns against quack builders in Nigeria

Must read

Following series of reports of building collapse in every part of the Country, the Executive Governor of Ebonyi State, Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru has tasked builders across the country to rise above societal limitations to tackle the infiltration of the profession by quacks in Nigeria.

According to governor Nwifuru, infiltration of quacks has been hugely responsible for incessant building collapse in the country.

He made the call when he received members of the National Institute of Building (NIoB) Ebonyi State Chapter who paid him a courtesy visit at his office, Ochoudo Centenary City, Abakaliki on Friday.

He blamed incessant building collapse and structural defects in parts of the country on handiwork of gatecrashers that are into the building profession and charged his colleagues to stand up in defense of their noble profession.

The Governor said “For me as a person, I am very much delighted seeing my professional colleagues even some people that taught me today.

“We must come together to build a very great State. There is no difference between building house and human being.

“Everybody needs shelter and that is why some of us ventured into the profession and I can tell you that the profession is very lucrative.

“Our trouble is that all manner of people now claim that they are building experts and they can build houses. Everyone is claiming to be a builder because there is no penalty.”

Nwifuru while soliciting the cooperation of NIOB, in Ebonyi State Chapter to conceptualize a robust urban and regional blueprint for the state, assured that with the partnership, Ebonyi State would be the most aesthetic in Nigeria under his watch.

“In this our State today we are still talking about urban and regional law, it is not the fault of the Governor but the fault of the professional body because as soon as we are ready to step up and do our bit, Government will implement.”

On his part, Builder Chinasa Nwekete said they were in the Government House to congratulate their professional colleague for his recent victory at the poll.

He reiterated readiness in assisting the government to drive home it’s policies in Housing, Urban and Regional Planing development.
