Senator Ndume distances himself from Akpabio’s performance, asserts individual accountability

Must read

Senator Ali Ndume, representing Borno South Senatorial District, has asserted that he should not be held accountable for the performance of Godswill Akpabio in his new role as the Senate President. As a prominent supporter of Akpabio and Deputy Speaker Barau Jibrin during their recent election, Senator Ndume addressed concerns about the potential impact of Akpabio’s performance on his own reputation.

During an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Senator Ndume rejected the notion that he would bear any responsibility for Akpabio’s actions. He firmly stated that Akpabio would be accountable for his own decisions and actions, just as he himself would be accountable for his own.

Senator Ndume clarified that he had endorsed Akpabio as the best candidate for the role, but he cannot predict or control what Akpabio might do in the future. He emphasized that he did not force anyone to vote and expressed his belief that Akpabio possessed the necessary qualifications to meet the expectations of Nigerians.

Highlighting their four-year acquaintance, Senator Ndume shared his observations of Akpabio’s intelligence, passion for specific issues, and ability to transcend tribal affiliations. He pointed out Akpabio’s previous role as a minority leader while he himself served as the majority leader, underscoring the potential for Akpabio to excel in his new position.
