In a tragic incident, police operatives of the Ogun State Command have apprehended four officials of a Micro Finance Bank for the death of a 50-year-old woman, Vivian Omo, during an attempt to recover a loan owed by her husband. The incident occurred in Ifo town, Ogun State.

The bank officials, identified as Badmus Olalekan, Ajibade Oludare, Eniola Aduragbemi, and Femi Oloko, were taken into custody while one of the staffers, Ajibulu, remains at large. According to reports, the bank, located in Ifo township, had visited the debtor’s residence to demand repayment of the loan. However, they were informed that the husband was not present.

Unsatisfied with the explanation, the bank officials decided to confiscate electronic items from the house. The deceased, Vivian Omo, objected to their actions, leading to a confrontation between her and the bank officials.

According to Abimbola Oyeyemi, the Command’s Public Relations Officer (PPRO), during the struggle, Ajibulu pushed Vivian Omo, causing her to fall unconscious. She was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital but was declared dead on arrival.

Following the incident, the deceased’s daughter reported the matter to the police at the Agbado Divisional Headquarters. In response, CSP Awoniyi Adekunle, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), led a team of detectives to the scene and arrested the four bank officials.

The body of the deceased has been transferred to the Ifo General Hospital morgue for an autopsy. Oyeyemi added that the State’s Commissioner of Police, Olanrewaju Oladimeji, has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspects to the Homicide section of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) for further investigation.

This unfortunate incident has raised concerns over the conduct of bank officials during debt recovery and highlights the need for stricter regulations to ensure the safety and well-being of debtors and their families. The investigation will shed light on the circumstances surrounding the tragic event and provide justice for the deceased
