PDP urges Oyetola to accept defeat in Osun Election appeal

Must read

The Osun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called on the immediate past governor of the state, Adegboyega Oyetola, to accept defeat after the Court of Appeal declared Ademola Adeleke as the duly elected governor of the state. The PDP, in a statement issued by its caretaker committee chairman, Dr. Akindele Adekunle, urged Oyetola to allow Adeleke to focus on delivering the dividends of democracy to the people of the state.

Oyetola had earlier announced his intention to challenge the verdict of the appellate court, which overturned his earlier victory at the governorship election petitions tribunal. The court’s ruling on Friday, 24th March, 2023, declared Adeleke as the winner of the Osun State governorship election.

In the statement, the PDP expressed concern over Oyetola’s decision to contest the ruling, calling on him to respect the will of the people as demonstrated through their votes. The party noted that governance is about service to the people, and the people of the state have already chosen their preferred candidate through their votes.

The PDP also commended the judiciary for upholding the people’s will and for standing firm in the face of attempts to subvert justice. The party stated that it is time for Oyetola to move on and allow Adeleke to take up his responsibilities as the duly elected governor of the state.
