Okezie emerges Labour Party’s candidate for Umuahia East House of Assembly

Augustine Okezie, a former chieftain of the All Progressive Congress from Abia State, has joined the Labour Party (LP) in the state.

Okezie also emerged as the 2023 State House of Assembly Candidate for Umuahia East constituency seat in a primary election overseen by the national leadership of the Labour Party.

He was elected as the LP Candidate for the Abia House of Assembly, through affirmation by party members cum delegates during the State House of Assembly primary elections held in Umuahia East Constituency of the state.

Our Correspondent reports that the concluded primary elections were monitored by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

His emergence as LP State House of Assembly Standard-bearer also came barely after a week he dumped the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Abia State.

AFRIPOST earlier reported that Mr Augustine Okezie, on May 2022, announced the resignation of his membership of the APC and his withdrawal from the State House of Assembly race under the platform of the APC..

He made this known in a letter, addressed to the Ndume Ward Chairman of the All Progressive Congress in Umuahia East constituency of Abia State, issued to newsmen in Umuahia, the state capital.

According to him in the letter, “the decision is borne out of the continuous internal crisis of the party in Abia State and the decision of the NWC to share the yet-to-be-conducted elective positions in the forthcoming party primaries, which I believe is against the democratic principle of fairness.

“It is regrettable that I am left with no choice under the circumstances, having put in a lot over the years to help build the party in the state”.

Meanwhile, the Abia House of Assembly Candidate of the Labour Party, Mr Augustine Okezie (Ugolee), has assured the people of Umuahia east state constituency of effective and responsive representations, shrouded on the attraction of meaningful and critical Infrastructures to enhance the development of the area if given the opportunity to emerge as a member of the State Assembly come 2023.

He spoke shortly after the concluded Labour Party State House of Assembly primary election that took place in Umuahia, the state capital.
