The Student Christian Movement of Nigeria (SCM) has appealed to the international community to help Nigeria out of its current security challenges.
The newly-elected National President of SCM, Mrs Ebere Ubesie, made the call at a news conference held in Ibadan, against the backdrop of the pervading insecurity across the country.
Ubesie also urged the Federal Government to take decisive steps that would end the spate of kidnappings and armed banditry in some parts of the country.
She particularly condemned the abduction of some students of Greenfield University Kaduna and the killing of five of them by their abductors, saying that urgent steps must be taken to get the remaining students off the hook.
According to Ubesie, SCM is Nigeria’s branch of the World Student Christian Federation (WSCF) based in Geneva, Switzerland.
She said that the movement has presence in 24 states and members in 39 tertiary institutions, 29 communities and more than 847 secondary and primary schools in Nigeria.
“We are a major stakeholder in the affairs of this country, particularly those concerning the youth and students in secondary and tertiary institutions.
“As a student body in Christian Council of Nigeria (CCN) and active participant in the youth wing of Christian Association of Nigeria, we also stand and endorse the calls by national Christian bodies that the time for government to act is now.
“We will continue to pray to God for the country, but it is important for the world to hear our voice too and help Nigeria out of the present situation,” Ubesie said.
