A tragic incident unfolded in Iye Ekiti, located in Ilejemeje Local Government Area of Ekiti State, where a 15-year-old boy was accidentally shot and killed by his father.
The Ekiti State Commissioner of Police, Joseph Eribo, confirmed the ugly news, which took place on the family’s farmland.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the farmer, whose identity has not been made public, had taken his son along for their usual farm duties.
Due to frequent disturbances by monkeys on the farm, the man reportedly brought a firearm to protect their crops.
While on the farm, he allegedly noticed movement in a nearby tree and, believing it to be one of the invading monkeys, opened fire.
Unfortunately, the movement was from his son, who had climbed the tree and was struck by the bullet.
The boy was pronounced dead shortly after the shooting.
The father is currently in police custody as authorities continue their investigation into the incident.
