Three notorious armed robbers known for terrorising Mararaba locals have been apprehended by Nasarawa State Police Command operators.
Operatives from the Mararaba ‘A’ Division conducted the operation based on reliable information following an investigation, according to a statement released on Sunday by the command’s public relations officer, Ramhan Nansel.
“Salim Hussaini 22, Abdulkadir Musa 20, and Dimas Danja 24, all males of Yelwa road, Aso Pada, Karu LGA of Nasarawa State,” were detained during the operation, according to Nansel.
According to the spokesman for the command, “one locally fabricated rifle, a knife, and criminal charms recovered from them as exhibits were discovered with the three individuals, who admitted to being part of an armed robbery group that was terrorising Mararaba and its surroundings.”
“Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects had on 02/10/2024 at about 2240hrs, stormed a residential Building Yelwa village road, Aso Pada, to carry out their nefarious activity but met stiff resistance and fled,” he said.
In a related event, police in Abuja on Saturday arrested one of the four accused auto thieves as they were trying to sell a stolen automobile.
He added, “Similarly, on 05/10/2024 at 1400hrs, actionable intelligence at the disposal of police detectives attached to New Karu Area command revealed that one Mohammed Aliyu Abubakar ‘M’ of Mabushi, FCT Abuja and three others were in possession of a Blue Toyota Camry with registration number RBC 980 DA suspected to stolen, and were in search of a buyer.’’
He stated that when the suspects spotted the agents coming, they ran away, but only one of them was caught and the stolen car was found.
“Responding swiftly to the intercept, the detectives stormed the location of the criminals who took to flight on sighting the police but luck ran out of the above mentioned suspect; he was arrested and the vehicle recovered to the station,” he said.
He claims that in order to claim the recovered car, Umar Nadada, the Commissioner of Police, asked on the owner of the stolen vehicle to come to the command with evidence of ownership.
