Tinubu celebrates Port Harcourt refinery revival, orders reactivation of Warri, Kaduna refineries

Must read

President Bola Tinubu has commended the Nigeria National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) for successfully revitalizing the Port Harcourt Refinery, which resumed petroleum product loading on November 26, 2024.

The President acknowledged former President Muhammadu Buhari’s role in initiating the comprehensive rehabilitation of Nigeria’s refineries and thanked the African Export-Import Bank for financing the critical project.

He also praised NNPC Limited’s Group Chief Executive Officer, Mele Kyari, for his leadership and commitment to overcoming challenges to achieve this milestone.

Following the refinery’s revival, President Tinubu has directed NNPC Limited to accelerate plans to reactivate the second Port Harcourt Refinery as well as the Warri and Kaduna refineries.

These efforts are expected to boost domestic production capacity, complement private refineries, and position Nigeria as a key energy hub. The gas sector, he added, will also receive heightened focus under his administration.

President Tinubu emphasized his government’s commitment to ending the paradox of Nigeria being a major crude oil producer that struggles to refine its resources locally.

He called for integrity, accountability, and dedication in rebuilding the nation’s infrastructure, urging those in positions of responsibility to remain focused on their mandates.

Reaffirming the Renewed Hope Agenda, the President pledged to prioritize energy sufficiency, security, and enhanced export capacity to achieve shared economic prosperity for all Nigerians.
