Malam Idris Abubakar, an Islamic teacher in Adamawa State, has been arrested on charges of homosexuality with two of his students.
Idris, 22, of Gaya Ward in Mubi South Local Government Area, was taken into custody by Nigerian Police officers after the father of one of the boys gave them reason to suspect him and subsequently reported him to police.
The victims, who are 12 and 10 years old, told the police about their ordeal and claimed that the suspect, who taught them Islamic lessons, had them perform menial household chores after school hours. He also had them massage his body before they committed an act of homosexuality.
He said they kept the truth to themselves because the teacher had warned them of serious penalties if they told anybody about his actions.
In addition, the mother of one of the boys informed the authorities that her kid used to complain of stomach aches and vomiting.
She claimed the allegation spurred her to investigate, and the child first refused to give her the full truth until she threatened to send him to the police, at which point he revealed what had happened between him and the Mallam.
However, the suspect has disputed the accusation of homosexuality, admitting only that he used to employ the lads in household duties.
SP Suleiman Nguroje, the state Police Public Relations Officer, stated that the state Commissioner of Police has ordered a full-scale inquiry into the situation.
Ngoruje stated that the suspect would thereafter be sent to court for proper legal proceedings.
