Must read

12 days after his abduction, Segun Olatunji, Editor of FirstNews Online Newspaper, who was kidnapped from his house, has regained freedom.

Report emerged on March 15 that gunmen invaded Olatunji’s residence at Iyana Odo, Abule Egba area of Lagos and abducted him.

The management of the media platform linked the incident to a story published by FirstNews.

Following concerns about his whereabouts, the International Press Institute, IPI Nigeria, revealed that the editor was in the custody of the Defence Intelligence Agency, DIA, an agency under the command of Major General Emmanuel Undiandeye, who reports to the Chief of Defence Staff, General Chris Musa.

Shortly after the IPI made this disclosure, the Minister of Information, Mohammed Idris, told some editors that the military had confirmed that the editor was in their custody.

AFRIPOST reports that the IPI in a statement on Wednesday called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to order the Chief of Defence Staff, CDS, to release Olatunji.

Olatunji was released to the Nigerian Guild of Editors, NGE, on Thursday morning, according to a message by the Secretary of the Guild, Dr. Iyobosa Uwugiaren.
