Islamic cleric, family members offer prayers for ex-Supreme Court Justice, wife

Prominent Islamic clerics, scholars and family of a former Justice of Supreme Court, Justice Bolarinwa Babalakin, have gathered in Ibadan to offer special prayers for the late justice and his wife, Alhaja Ramotu Ibironke Babalakin.

Our correspondent reports that Justice Babalakin died at the age of 94 in 2021 while his wife died in March 2004.

Prominent Islamic clerics and family members of the deceases on Thursday gathered in Ibadan, the Oyo state capital to offer special Islamic prayers for the soul of the wife who died 20 years ago and the retired Justice who died in 2021.

The special prayers held at Muslim Association of Nigeria (MAN) Ibadan branch coincided with the commissioning of Hon Justice Bola Babalakin Hall donated by Babalakin’s family for MAN Ibadan branch.

It was attended by Chief Imam of University of Ibadan, Professor Abdulrahman Oloyede, Professor Wole Abass and the Chief Missioner, Ansarudeen Society of Nigeria, Odo Ona branch, Alhaji Zakariyaa Balogun.

Others are Professor Asif Ahmad, Alhaji Akib Amzat, Alhaji Mubashir Lawal and Alhaji Ukashat Busari.

The Islamic clerics while speaking maintained that Justice Babalakin and his wife died a pious Muslims.

They recited several verses of the Holy Qur’an and prayed for the souls of the departed souls.

One of the trustees of MAN, Alhaji Oladiti Oladejo while cutting the tape for commissioning of the hall applauded the family for the gesture.

MAN Chairman, Ibadan branch, Alhaji Abdulrahman Olawale Abdulganiy while speaking called on other families to emulate what the family of the former Justice has done.

He said, “My message is that I commend the family for what they have done to remembr their parents. They have been doing it for many years. I used this opportunity to encourage other families to emulate them”.
