Tinubu seeks confirmation of CBN, NAHCON, NPC board members

President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday, urged the Nigeria’s Senate to screen and confirm board members of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, National Hajj Commission, NAHCON and the National Population Commission, NPC, respectively.

This was contained in separate letters addressed to the Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio and read on the floor of the Red Chamber during plenary on Tuesday.

The five appointees as board directors of the CBN include Robert Agbide, Ado Wanga, Murtala Sagaley, Urom Eke and Olayinka Aliyu.

In the letter, Tinubu said his request was in compliance with the provision of section 6(1a) of the section 10(1)(2) of the CBN Act, 2007.

“In compliance with the provision of section 6(1a) of the Section 10(1)(2) of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) establishment act 2007.

“I am pleased to present for confirmation by the senate the appointments of the underlisted five persons as directors of the board of the CBN,” he stated.

In the NAHCON, the President sought the confirmation of the appointments of Jalal Arabi as the chairman; Aliu Abdulrazaq — Commissioner, Policy, Personnel, & Finance; Anofi Elegushi — Commissioner, Operations and Abubakar Yagawal as the Commissioner, Planning & Research.

Others appointed on the basis of zonal representations are Muhammad Umaru Ndagi — North Central, Abba Jato Kala — North East, Muhammad Bin Othman — North West, Tajudeen Oladejo Abefe — South West, Aishat Obi Ahmed — South East, Zainab Musa — South South, Musa Inuwa Fodio — Jama’atul Nasril Islam and Adedimeji Mahfouz Adebola — Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs.

Also, Tinubu asked the Senate to confirm Hon. Amidu Tadese Raheem as the Commissioner of the National Population Commission, NPC.

The President stated in the letter to the upper legislative chamber that the appointment was done in accordance with the provisions of sections 154 (1) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 as amended.

He sought for expeditious consideration and approval of the request.

“Whilst hoping that this request will receive the usual expeditious consideration of the Senate, please accept Distinguished Senate President, the assurances of my highest consideration”, he stated
