PDP clears 10 aspirants for Edo gov primaries

The Peoples Democratic Party has cleared all the 10 screened aspirants for Edo State party’s governorship primaries scheduled for February 22.

The Independent National Electoral Commission fixed September 21, 2024, for the state governorship election.

The Nomination Form was sold for N30 million, while the Expression of Interest Form was N5 million. PDP’s sale of forms that began on January 17, 2024, ended on Thursday.

The 10 aspirants were screened by the Screening Committee headed by the Governor of Plateau State, Caleb Mutfwang, on Monday at the PDP national headquarters, popularly called Wadata Plaza, Abuja.

After the screening, Mutfwang reassured aspirants that the party would ensure fairness for all contestants and emphasised the PDP’s commitment to winning the governorship poll.

The PDP National Organising Secretary, Umar Bature, confirmed to journalists on Tuesday that all the 10 screened aspirants were cleared.

Bature, shortly after presenting the Provisional Clearance Certificate to the aspirants, said, “All ten aspirants are cleared to contest.”

The aspirants who have been cleared are the Edo State Deputy Governor, Philip Shuaibu; a former Chairman of Sterling Bank, Asue Ighodalo; and Blessing Igbinedion, daughter of Esama of Benin Kingdom, Chief Gabriel Igbinedion.

Other aspirants are Anselm Usiose Ojezua, Felix Akhabue, Martin Uhomoibhi, Umoru Hadizat, Osaro Osaze Onaiwu, Arthur Esene and Omoregie Ihama.
