Sokoto Guber: Supreme Court reserves judgment in Umar’s appeal

The five-member panel led by Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun of the Supreme Court reserved judgment in an appeal by Saidu Umar of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP against the election of Governor Ahmad Aliyu of Sokoto State.

The court on Wednesday, adjourned the case for judgment after listening to the argument from the parties involved in the appeal.

The Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja, had affirmed Aliyu’s election.

Umar and his party, PDP had alleged that Aliyu and his deputy, Idris Gobir, were not eligible to contest the governorship poll.

They also alleged that the election was not only marred by irregularities but was also not conducted in substantial compliance with provisions of the Electoral Act 2022.

The court of appeal, however, dismissed their appeal for lacking in merit.

Umar and the PDP, not okay with the Appeal Court ruling, approached the apex court.
