Army arrests soldier for lambasting Sanwo-Olu in viral video

The Nigerian soldier spotted in a viral video speaking against Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of the Lagos State has been arrested.

The said soldier in the video, blasted the Governor for ordering the arrest of one of his colleagues for driving one-way.

Recall that in a video clip that went viral last week, Sanwo-Olu was seen asking his security details to run after some motorcyclists said to be violating the state’s traffic rules.

One of the traffic violators, however, told the governor that he was a soldier while the security operatives were dragging him into their vehicle.

Angered by the comment, Sanwo-Olu said, “You are telling me you are a soldier; that is more reason I am going to lock you up”.

Shortly after the arrest, a video of a soldier raining insults on the governor emerged online.

Taoreed Lagbaja, the Chief of Army Staff, confirmed the arrest of the soldier while addressing journalists on Tuesday.

“For what you alleged that soldiers have gone to social media casting aspersions on the office of Lagos State Governor, I will say it is only one soldier that has done that.

“The army has investigated; that soldier has been apprehended, and we are investigating. For every other comical act that you have seen, they are not personnel of the Nigerian Army. We have investigated that”, he said.
