Imo election: INEC debunks reports of denying LP candidate access to certified true copy documents

Must read

The Independent National Electoral Commission has denied reports making the rounds that it refused to issue the Labour Party governorship candidate, Athan Achonu, certified true copies of the November 11 gubernatorial polls in Imo State.

INEC made this disclosure through its verified X handle on Monday.

AFRIPOST recalls that the LP candidate, Achonu had accused INEC of denying his party access to certified true copies of election documents.

INEC, however, said it is assembling all the documents to assess the payment cost.

The electoral body posted: “The attention of the management of the Commission in Imo State has been drawn to the statements from the Labour Party in Imo State, which claim that INEC has refused to issue the party with certified true copies of election materials and wish to clarify the matter.

“INEC, however, acknowledges the receipt of the application for the certification of documents from the LP and had held active correspondence with them, informing them that the legal department would estimate the certification cost of all 33 items they requested.

“The Commission is assembling all the needed documents to assess the cost so that payment could be made. Management clearly understands the right of parties to request for CTC of documents and would work assiduously to issue them.”

Recall that INEC declared Hope Uzodinma of the All Progressives Party as the winner of the November 11 governorship polls in Imo state.
