Some suspected Boko Haram terrorists on Sunday, launched an attack on Governor Mai Mala Buni’s convoy along Maiduguri-Damaturu highway.
The attack resulted in the killing of a police officer while some other people were injured.
Mamman Mohammed, Director-General, Press and Media Affairs to the Governor confirmed this in a statement signed and issued to newsmen in Damaturu on Sunday.
While commiserating with the Nigeria Police Force and the family of the deceased police, Gov Buni described the death of Corporal Maina Mohammed attached to the ‘Operation Haba Maza’, security outfit as tragic, sad, and unfortunate.
The governor, while praying for the quick recovery of those who were injured during the attack, prayed for the repose of the soul of the gallant policeman in Aljannatur Firdaus.
The late policeman was on the security escort of the governor to Maiduguri yesterday to attend the Convocation ceremony of the University of Maiduguri.
The convoy ran into an ambush mounted by the suspected terrorists near Benishiek in Borno State while on its way back to Damaturu.
Governor Buni directed the management of the Specialist Hospital Damaturu to provide full medical services to the injured security personnel.
He also directed the secretary to the state government to forward to his office a support measure for the family of the deceased policeman.
