Zamfara: Bandits kill two, kidnap COE lecturer, three others

Some unknown terrorists suspected to be bandits have attacked Maru town, the headquarters of Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

The attack on Saturday night, resulted in the killing of two persons while four others, including a lecturer from the College of State Education (COE), were abducted.

A piece of information from a resident of the area, Usman Ibrahim, said the gunmen stormed Maru town last Saturday night, killing two persons and abducting three others, plus a lecturer at the College of Education Maru, Nasiru Mohammed Anka.

“The terrorists entered the town with sophisticated weapons and began shooting sporadically. Later, they moved from house to house, where they abducted four people.

“They also opened fire on others who tried to escape the abduction. They killed two people and injured many others during the operation.”

Another resident, Isiaku, appealing to the state government and other relevant authorities to take serious measures to address the dire situation, said that last Saturday’s attack on Maru town was the fourth of its kind in just one month.

“The terrorists have been attacking the town, even though it is a local government headquarters and very close to the Gusau-Sokoto road. Just last week, they attacked the town.”

All attempts by newsmen to get comments from the spokesperson of the State Police Command, ASP Yazid Abubakar, were unsuccessful, as he did not answer phone calls
