Investigate alleged to life of cleric by Osun monarch- Group tells IGP, AIG

A human rights advocacy group, Save the Poor and Needy Charity Initiative (SPANCI) has enjoined the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun and the Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone 11, Paul Ojeka Odama to investigate a case of alleged threat to life of a cleric by a monarch and his chiefs in Osun state.

The group made this declaration in a petition addressed to both the IGP and AIG, a copy of which was made available to journalists on Monday.

SPANCI President, Comrade Yemi Ezekiel Bello in the petition alleged that the Elerinmo of Erinmo in Osun state, Oba Micheal Odunayo Ajayi Arowotawaya and one of his chiefs, Saba of Erinmo, Chief Taiwo Agbonmagbe are threatening the life of Pastor Samuel Adegoke Bojesomo and members of his family.

Bello in the petition maintained that the monarch and his chiefs have been sending threat messages to the cleric and his family over plans to forcefully take over the land at Orioke Agbara Emimimo Efon Alaye in Ekiti state from the family of Baba Aladura Joseph Odeyemi Eyinafe Bojesomo.

The group in the petition declared that the land in question is located in Ekiti state and belonged to the family of the cleric which they have been using as a prayer mountain/church for many years.

The group said it was surprised that the monarch and his chiefs have concluded plans to take over the land which falls between the boundary of Osun and Ekiti states.

Bello, while speaking further, alleged that the monarch and his chiefs have been threatening the life of the cleric, his family and workers over the land matter.

Bello who noted that the monarch intended to cede the land which is in Efon Alaaye in Ekiti state to Erinmo in Osun state, added that the monarch’s action is likely to cause breach of peace in the area.

He then appealed to the IGP and the AIG to investigate the matter.

“We have the consent of prophet Samuel Adegoke Bojesomo and his family members to write this letter so that their rights and obligations may be protected.

“Another thing that our clients said happened same day later was a threat to life call received by Mr Babalola Raphael, one of our clients worker on the mountain from a man who refused to mention his name but said he is one of Erinmo youths who was also threatening his life.

“We hereby request the IGP and AIG zone 11 to prevail on Osun State CP under whose command the police were forcing our clients to come and write undertaking and make affidavit in favor of Elerinmo and his chiefs and call him to order in the interest of justice and fair hearing.

“That the matter be investigated and Elerinmo, his chiefs and any other person planning such evil be arrested and prosecuted for the above criminal acts before they carry out their evil plans on our clients in the interest of justice and fair hearing”.

Effort made by our correspondent to get a reaction from the monarch proved to abortive as calls put through his mobile phone were not answered.

But, the Saba of Erinmo, Chief Taiwo Agbonmagbe when contacted said that he cannot comment on the matter because the matter is being handled by the police.

“I am not competent to talk or say anything about the subject matter because the subject matter is with the state commissioner of police at the police command headquarters”.
