OAU students shut down institution over hike in tuition fees

Students of the Obafemi Awolowo University, OAU, Ile-Ife, on Tuesday, embarked on a massive a protest against the hike in school fees.

The protesting students were out to protest an immediate 50 per cent slash in the new fee regime.

They charged the Federal Government to allocate the funds from subsidy removal towards education instead of increasing school fees.

The students also blocked the main gate, making vehicular movement impossible.

As a result, students, staff, and other university stakeholders were stranded at the campus gate on Tuesday morning. Some were forced to turn back to their homes.
