Ebonyi State government has vowed to close down all the private schools in the State that are unregistered in line with the rules and regulations guiding educational policy in the state.

The state Commissioner for Education professor Paul Awo Nwaobasi disclosed this while interacting with newsmen in his office at the Ochudo Centenary City Abakaliki, the State capital on Friday.

The Commissioner also disclosed that Ebonyi State Ministry of Education has announced the resumption date of 11th of September 2023 for all schools in the state to reopen.

He further disclosed that over six hundred private schools in the state have been illegally operating without properly registered.

According to him, “This time, all illegal schools will be closed down until they are properly registered”.

He added that the present administration, led by His Excellency Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru will not tolerate such an unhealthy condition of such schools.

The Commissioner reacting to the rumour speculating that private school proprietors in the state are kicking against the government reopen order for September 11, 2023, said that the Ministry will not force any private school that may not want to reopen in line with the State Ministry of Education policy.

Nwaobasi called on all parents whose pupils are attending unqualified schools to take note and withdraw them to well well-organised and registered schools in the state.
