Nigeria’s Air force helicopter crashes in Niger

Nigerian Air Force MI-171 Helicopter has crashed near Chukuba Village in Niger State.

The Helicopter which was on a casualty evacuation mission crashed on Monday crashed at about 1pm.

Confirming the incident in a statement, NAF spokesman, Edward Gabkwet, explained that the aircraft had departed Zungeru Primary School enroute Kaduna but crashed near Chukuba Village in Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State.

He added that “Efforts are currently ongoing to rescue the crew and passengers on board while investigations have commenced to determine the cause of the crash.”

The number of persons onboard or their state were unknown as of press time.

Recall that seven NAF personnel on their way from Abuja to Minna, the Niger State capital on February 22, 2021, died when their plane crashed after takeoff from Abuja Airport.
