Ministerial nominee: Discos, others allegedly behind El-Rufai’s nomination controversy

Must read

Facts have emerged that former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai may have already started the battle waiting to confront him when he becomes the minister of power.

A top government source told AFRIPOST that the immediate past Kaduna State Governor has jammed a “block” stopping his confirmation because going by his past record, he is fearless when the question of reforms arises.

The source told AFRIPOST that El-Rufai, even before his nomination had made his position known on a total reform of the power sector. He said the former Governor steered the hornet nest even before his nomination when he said in 2016 in Lagos during the Nigeria Energy Conference that the only solution to the power sector is a total reform.

The source said:

“Forget any kind of security report being used to frustrate El-Rufai’s nomination. Something is not right about everything. People are just out to frustrate the government of Bola Tinubu knowing that someone will lose his contract when the fearless El-Rufai takes over the power sector.

“I have on a good authority that some of the Discos had after the last presentation by El-Rufai at the national Assembly became jittery.

“They felt threatened that the former governor said only about two to three of the Discos had done very well, hence there will be a total reform. Some of the Discos are working underground to frustrate El-Rufai’s nomination so that the they can continue their usual practice of throwing Nigerians into perpetual darkness.

” This is because as it stands, only El-Rufai has the capacity and the will to drive a more positive power sector reform.”

Recall that El-Rufai had during the ministerial screening pledged to reform holistically both distribution and generation in the power sector, highlighting key areas to address.
