Senate: Akpabio exposes colleagues, says token sent to their accounts to enjoy

Senate President, Godswill Akpabio mistakenly disclosed that money had been sent to his colleagues “to enjoy your holiday”.

Even though the lawmaker was quick to withdraw his statement upon realizing he was on national television, it is currently the subject of discussion on major social media platforms.

Apparently forgetting that he was on live camera, the senate president had told his colleagues:

“As soon as Senator Umahi takes his oath of office, we shall rearrange the office of the leadership.”

“In order to enable all of us to enjoy our holidays, a token has been sent to our various accounts by the Clerk of the National Assembly,” he said.

Realising what was at stake, a senator rushed to him to make him realise that he was on air.

In his response, Akpabio said, “I withdraw that statement. In order to allow you to enjoy your holiday, the senate president has sent prayers to your mailboxes to assist you to go on a safe journey and return.”

It remains unclear how much was wired to the senators.

Meanwhile, the current economic situation across the country calls for serious concern amid jumbo allownaces of the lawmakers.

The hardship is becoming unbearable across the country following the recent removal of petrol subsidy.
