Tragedy struck in a commercial town of Ore, Odigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State on Sunday evening when a tanker exploded and resulted in multiple deaths.
According to reports, residents had trooped to the scene of an accident to scoop petrol from a truck when the kids explosion occurred.
Eyewitnesses recounted that the fuel, which had spilled onto the road, was ignited by a spark emanating from a mobile phone held by one of the individuals involved in the fuel scooping.
The incident happened along the Showboy road, near a filling station in the area.
Eyewitnesses recounted that the inferno claimed the lives of over 15 persons including three children and a pregnant woman.
The spokesperson of the police in the state, Fumilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, while confirminf the incident said the victims were engaged in fuel scooping.
