JAMB to introduce ‘Bring Your Own Device’ initiative for UTME, DE examinations

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Examinations Board (JAMB) announced its plan to introduce the ‘Bring Your Own Device’ (BYOD) initiative for the Unified Tertiary Matriculations Examination (UTME) and Direct Entry (DE) examination. JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, revealed this during the 2023 Policy Meeting in Abuja. The initiative aims to allow candidates to take the exams on their mobile phones, reducing capital investment while addressing digital literacy concerns. To combat malpractice, a Mobile Examination Malpractice Tribunal will be established, with institutions handling cases of misconduct. JAMB will collaborate with security agencies to address cybercrimes and tap into their expertise to ensure exam integrity.

In addition, JAMB intends to move certain services to the registration portal to prevent extortion and adopt open-book examinations to discourage cheating. These measures aim to streamline processes and enhance the credibility of the exams.

During the announcement, Prof. Oloyede also recognized Umeh Nkechinyere as the top scorer for the 2023 UTME, achieving a cumulative mark of 360. He further unveiled the top 10 candidates, including Aguele Stephen, Ositade Oluwafemi, Gbolahan Ayinde, John Fulfilment, and Chimdubem Ugonna, among others, who demonstrated exceptional performance.
