Governor Sanwo-Olu rewards best graduating student with N10 Million

In a remarkable display of recognition and support for academic excellence, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State rewarded the top-performing student for the 2021/2022 academic session at Lagos State University (LASU). Aminat Yusuf Imoitsemeh, a brilliant law student, was bestowed with a generous sum of N10 million. The governor made this announcement during the university’s 26th convocation ceremony held in Ojo, Lagos, contributing N5 million personally and another N5 million from the state government.

Yusuf’s exceptional achievement was marked by her remarkable Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 5.00, securing a coveted First-Class degree. Governor Sanwo-Olu expressed his admiration and stated, “As a token for her brilliance, I will be giving her a token of N5 million, and the state government will provide an additional donation of N5 million.” This extraordinary feat calls for celebration and recognition of Miss Yusuf Aminat Imoitsemeh’s exceptional academic prowess as she emerges as the best student for the 2021/2022 academic session with a perfect 5.0 CGPA.

He stated, “The Lagos State government under my watch is focused on assisting students in government tertiary institutions within the State to discover their talents, harness their potentials and refocus towards excellence, entrepreneurship and self-sustenance.”

In addition to honoring outstanding students, the vice-chancellor of LASU, Prof. Ibiyemi Ibilola-Bello, took the opportunity during the 26th convocation and 40th anniversary ceremony to confer doctoral degrees upon eminent individuals who have made remarkable contributions to the growth and development of the institution and society. These distinguished personalities include former Minister of Works and Housing, Mr. Babatunde Raji Fashola (Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters – Urban and Rural Community Development and Youth Empowerment), Dr. John Olukayode Fayemi (Honorary Doctor of Letters – Human Rights, National Integration and African Security Development), Hon. Olufemi Hakeem Gbajabiamila (Honorary Doctor of Law – Education, Community, and National Development).

Among the esteemed awardees were Dr. Claudiana Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu (Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters – Child Healthcare, Environmental Development, and Women Empowerment), Oba Alayeluwa Saheed Ademola Elegushi (Honorary Doctor of Arts – Broadcasting, Community Integration, and Human Rights Advocacy), Prof. Daniel Kolawole Olukoya (Honorary Doctor of Science – Genetics and Biotechnology), Oba (Dr) Sulaiman Adeshina Raji, Ashade (Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters – Grassroots Development), and Princess Victoria Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire.
