President Tinubu returns NEMA, NAHCON to office of Vice President

Must read

President Bola Tinubu has made a significant decision to bring the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) back under the supervision of the Office of the Vice President. This move aligns with their respective establishment Acts and aims to ensure effective oversight and coordination.

In an official statement released by Olusola Abiola, the Director of Information in the Office of the Vice President, it was announced that the President has also approved the establishment of a formal structure for the Office of the Vice President. Additionally, an appropriate number of technical and administrative aides will be assigned to work closely with the Vice President in carrying out his responsibilities.

It is important to note that the previous administration of President Muhammadu Buhari had deviated from the established laws by removing NEMA and NAHCON from the Office of the Vice President’s supervision. NAHCON was placed under the purview of the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs, while NEMA was made an agency under the supervision of the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management, and Social Development, following the creation of the ministry in 2019.

This recent decision by President Bola Tinubu reaffirms the significance of the Office of the Vice President in ensuring efficient and well-coordinated management of emergency situations and the successful execution of the Hajj operations. By returning NEMA and NAHCON to their rightful place, the government aims to enhance their effectiveness and optimize their contributions to national development.

The reinstatement of NEMA and NAHCON under the Office of the Vice President is a step towards strengthening governance and adherence to established protocols. It signifies a commitment to upholding the rule of law and prioritizing the efficient functioning of key agencies responsible for emergency management and Hajj operations.

The Office of the Vice President will now have the necessary structure and support to provide effective leadership and guidance in critical areas of national importance. With this move, the government demonstrates its dedication to ensuring the smooth operation of these agencies and fostering efficient collaboration among relevant stakeholders.

The return of NEMA and NAHCON to the Office of the Vice President reinforces the importance of effective governance and proper institutional alignment. This decision will have a positive impact on the overall management of emergencies and the successful organization of Hajj activities in Nigeria.
