In a significant development, the Nasarawa Command of the police has successfully apprehended another escapee from the Kuje Correctional Center. The escapee, identified as Mr. Haruna Sunday, aged 35, was captured by diligent officers in Masaka, Karu local government area of the state.

According to Ramhan Nansel, the Public Relations Officer of the command, the arrest of Mr. Haruna Sunday was made on June 8, 2023, in connection with a burglary case. During interrogation, the suspect openly confessed that he had escaped from the Kuje prison during the infamous attack that occurred in 2022.

This recent arrest marks the third successful re-apprehension of an escapee from the Kuje Correctional Center following the terrorist attack that transpired in 2022. Earlier in April 2023, Salisu Buhari, another escapee, was captured by operatives of the Nasarawa Command in Nassarawa local government area through a meticulously planned operation.

Moreover, shortly after the facility was attacked, Hassan Hassan, a suspected member of Boko Haram, was also re-arrested in Keffi local government area of the state by dedicated officers of the command. These instances demonstrate the relentless efforts of law enforcement in bringing escaped prisoners to justice.

During an interview at the command headquarters in Lafia, Haruna Sunday emphasized that although he was among the escapees, he is not associated with any terrorist organization. He clarified that he was awaiting trial when the prison break occurred, with armed individuals believed to be terrorists storming the facility and liberating the inmates, including himself.

DSP Nansel affirmed that the Nasarawa Command will hand over the apprehended escapee, Haruna Sunday, to the Nigeria Correctional Service for further necessary action. This step ensures that the appropriate legal procedures are followed in dealing with the escaped prisoner.
