Group urges Kano Governor to preserve Ganduje’s legacy, halt demolition

The Progressive Foundational Movement (PFM), a pro-All Progressives Congress (APC) group, has issued a cautionary message to the new Governor of Kano State, Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf, urging him to avoid eradicating the significant achievements of the immediate past Governor, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje.

The PFM expressed deep concern over the swift demolition of valuable structures worth billions of naira in the ancient city of Kano, which occurred within a week of Governor Yusuf assuming office. The group criticized the state government for its blatant disregard of due process in the wanton destruction of public properties.

In particular, the PFM highlighted the demolition of Daula Hotel, a Public Private Partnership project between the state government and a private company. They emphasized that such actions could discourage prospective investors and send a negative signal about the state’s commitment to partnerships.

At a time when Kano State, as the commercial hub of northern Nigeria, requires investments to boost its internally generated revenue, the PFM criticized the state government for undermining the investment drive initiated by former Governor Ganduje.

Notably, Lamash Property Limited, a private firm, has threatened to sue the Kano State government and is seeking N10 billion compensation for the demolition of Daula Hotel. The PFM expressed their dismay at the reckless demolition exercise, highlighting the adverse consequences it has on businesses and the livelihoods of the people.

The group called upon the elders of the state, including Governor Yusuf’s political leader and former Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, to intervene and ensure that the Governor refrains from further destructive actions. They appealed to Governor Yusuf to focus on fulfilling his mandate rather than dismantling the significant achievements of Governor Ganduje in Kano State.
