In a statement, the Lamidi Apapa-led National Working Committee of the Labour Party (LP) expressed its support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s authority to suspend corrupt appointees without seeking approval from the National Assembly. The party also commended various ongoing reforms, including the declaration of June 12 as a National Holiday.
Abayomi Arabambi, the national publicity secretary of the Labour Party, acknowledged Tinubu’s commitment to upholding democracy along religious, economic, and political lines. Arabambi expressed gratitude to the previous administration for recognizing the sacrifices of the Heroes of Democracy.
Arabambi highlighted the shared vision between Chief MKO Abiola and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a renewed Nigeria, transcending religious boundaries. The Labour Party applauded Hon. Kayode Oladele, a former House of Representatives member, for his contributions to realizing Tinubu’s legislative agenda.
The party called on the public to support the government’s positive intentions while condemning wrongdoing when necessary. Arabambi criticized the Peter Obi/Abure-led faction of the Labour Party for their claims against President Tinubu, stating that their allegations were baseless and lacked constitutional merit.
Arabambi dismissed the faction’s accusations as irresponsible and ignorant, cautioning against actions that could undermine the unity of Nigeria. He described the outburst as a call for corruption and terrorism, refuting allegations against Peter Obi and Julius Abure regarding the Labour Party campaign fund.
The Labour Party criticized the suspended CBN governor, Mr. Godwin Emefiele, for his tenure’s negative impact. Arabambi emphasized the need for investigation and possible prosecution if found guilty. He raised concerns about the re-colouration of the Naira and the cashless policy, which led to protests and chaos across the country.
Arabambi called on security agencies to conduct investigations into the allegations against Emefiele without hindrance, allowing Nigerians to understand the causes of the economic crisis.
