NDLEA uncovers secret methamphetamine lab in Lagos

Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have made significant seizures and arrests in various states, including the discovery of a clandestine laboratory producing methamphetamine in Ikeja, Lagos. These operations demonstrate the agency’s commitment to combatting drug trafficking and illicit substance production in NiNigeria.

The NDLEA’s anti-narcotics officers raided a residential duplex on Bode Oluwo Street in Mende, Maryland, Ikeja, where they uncovered a secret laboratory producing methamphetamine. The search yielded one kilogram of packaged methamphetamine, precursor chemicals, and other production-related items. Efforts are underway to apprehend the owner of the house, who fled the scene.

In a separate operation, the NDLEA officers arrested two suspects, Wasiu Saliu and Afolabi Banjo, with 247 kilograms of skunk in the Oyingbo area of Lagos. Another suspect, Tijani Damilola, was apprehended in Isheri with 12.5 litres of skuchies and 98 kilograms of cannabis sativa, while 12.5 kilograms of the same substance were seized from Adebowale Babatunde in Mushin.

NDLEA operatives intercepted a shipment of 3.20 kilograms of skunk concealed in native black soap destined for the United Kingdom at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos. The freight agent involved in the export attempt, Olowokudejo Oladele Tonyi, was arrested. Additionally, a cargo agent named Akinwale Taiwo Bolutife was caught attempting to export 3,000 pills of Tramadol 225mg hidden inside women’s hair attachments to Monrovia, Liberia.

The NDLEA’s vigilance extended to Benue State, where Emmanuel Onah was arrested at a checkpoint with 61,790 pills of tramadol. In Edo State, Ikenna Jonathan Udeze was nabbed with 208 kilograms of cannabis hidden in his Toyota Camry car. Agara Ogbonna was found in possession of 235 bottles of codeine syrup, 1,500 pills of Tramadol, and Swinol along the Owerri – Onitsha expressway in Imo State.

The agency’s operations in Ondo State led to the arrest of Friday Augustine and Segun Akintudoye with 30 kilograms of cannabis, as well as the recovery of 10.4 kilograms of the substance from the home of a fleeing suspect in Idanre. In Kebbi State, Alin Bala and Danzaki Alhaji were apprehended with 5.9 kilograms of cannabis and 3,792 tablets of diazepam, while Babangida Mande was caught with 6 kilograms of cannabis and 658 tablets of diazepam in Mararaban Yauri.

Adewole Abidemi was arrested with 115.9 kilograms of cannabis in Ife South LGA of Osun State. Raji Musa and Alominile Folashade were also nabbed in Gbokuta village in the same LGA for drug-related offenses.

The NDLEA chairman commended the officers and men of various state commands for their successful seizures and arrests. He urged them to remain vigilant and dedicated to the agency’s mission of curbing drug trafficking and securing the nation from the menace of illicit substances.
