Kwara Gov approves bus palliatives to ease fuel subsidy impact on students, workers

Must read

In response to the removal of fuel subsidies by the Federal Government, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara State has taken steps to alleviate the effects on students and workers. One such measure is the deployment of government buses to facilitate transportation for students and employees in public tertiary institutions within Ilorin and its surroundings.

As part of the second phase of the fuel subsidy mitigation plan, the Kwara State government has authorized the utilization of government buses to support the movement of students and workers in the capital city. This initiative aims to alleviate the transportation challenges faced by individuals in the wake of the subsidy removal.

Earlier, the state government implemented a reduction in workdays for civil servants, reducing them from five to three per week. This move was intended to provide relief to workers while alternative measures were being devised for those exempted from the policy.

According to Rafiu Ajakaye, the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, the deployment of large buses to transport students of public tertiary institutions within the metropolis, including those heading to the Kwara State University campus at Malete, will commence on Wednesday, June 14. Further information regarding the bus palliative scheme will be announced by the coordinating Ministries, Agencies, and Departments (MDAs).

The Kwara State government remains committed to offering immediate support to the public during the permanent transition to the post-fuel subsidy era. Simultaneously, efforts are being made to implement measures that will enhance people’s well-being and foster sustainable economic growth.
