Benue State Governor sets up committee to recover looted government property

Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, has taken a decisive step to recover looted government property from the previous administration of Governor Samuel Ortom. In a move to ensure accountability and transparency, Governor Alia has established an Assets Recovery Committee at both state and local government levels.

The Chief Press Secretary (CPS) to the Governor, Tersoo Kula, confirmed the establishment of the Assets Recovery Committee in a statement. The committee is tasked with the responsibility of recovering looted government property and restoring them to their rightful place.

The Assets Recovery Committee is headed by former Permanent Secretary, Hingah Biem, and comprises esteemed members, including a former Attorney General of the State, Barr. Joe Abaagu, Dennis Akura, Ioryue Yajir, Peter Egbodo, Joseph Ojob, Jonathan Modi, Shaageer Matins, Yuhe Jerome, Tom Uja, and Tormbuwua Terlumun. Their expertise will be instrumental in the recovery process.

To ensure the success of the recovery mission, representatives from various security agencies will be deployed alongside the committee members. The Department of State Security, the Police, the Military, and the Nigeria Civil Defence Corps will all play a crucial role in recovering the looted assets.

Additionally, Governor Alia has also inaugurated a Fact-Finding Committee for the Benue State University. This committee will investigate any irregularities or mismanagement within the institution, promoting transparency and accountability in the education sector.

Governor Alia’s decision to establish the Assets Recovery Committee reflects his commitment to combating corruption and ensuring the responsible use of government resources. By recovering the looted property and conducting a thorough investigation into the state university, the governor aims to restore public trust and promote good governance in Benue State.
