PDP raises alarm over plot to arrest lawmakers-elect opposing zoning

The national publicity secretary of the PDP, Hon Debo Ologunagba, accused certain elements within the APC of orchestrating this scheme to intimidate and harass lawmakers into selecting the APC’s preferred candidates. In a press conference held in Abuja, Ologunagba emphasized the importance of upholding the independence of the legislature and urged lawmakers-elect to assert their right to elect their leadership.

Hon Debo Ologunagba expressed concerns over attempts to undermine the independence of the legislature by influencing the selection of the National Assembly’s leadership. He revealed that some elements within the APC were agitated and resorting to plots aimed at manipulating the emergence of the leadership outside the floor. The PDP strongly believes that members-elect in both houses should have the freedom to elect their leaders without interference.

Ologunagba highlighted reports indicating plots to arrest individuals who advocate for the independence of the legislature and the right of lawmakers-elect to choose their leadership. The PDP firmly believes that the independence of the legislature is crucial for a vibrant democracy and insists that members-elect in both houses be allowed to exercise their right to elect their leaders. The party condemns any attempt to intimidate, harass, or threaten lawmakers-elect.

In the midst of the ongoing campaign for the next Senate President, the South South Solidarity group has called on Nigerians, particularly the newly elected Senators, to support the candidacy of Godswill Akpabio for Senate President and Barau Jibrin for Deputy Senate President. During a press conference in Abuja, the Convener of the group, Peter Ikpen Ilefa, emphasized the importance of unity for Nigeria.

The South South Solidarity group, representing critical stakeholders in the South-Southern region of Nigeria, aims to establish a strong foundation for effective governance in the country. They express their solidarity for the emergence of Senator Godswill Obot Akpabio as the next Senate President and Senator Jibrin Barau as Deputy Senate President. The group believes that their leadership will contribute to the progress and stability of Nigeria.
