Political thugs attack PDP chieftain at Ogun election tribunal sitting

Must read

In a shocking incident, suspected hoodlums believed to be political thugs stormed the premises of the Magistrate Court, the venue of the Ogun State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal. The thugs brutally attacked Segun Showunmi, a prominent member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state, using cudgels. The assault took place as the tribunal commenced the hearing of a petition filed by Hon. Ladi Adebutu, the governorship candidate of the PDP, against the electoral victory of Prince Dapo Abiodun from the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Amidst heavy security presence, a large group of thugs armed with cudgels and horsewhips infiltrated the court premises to show support for their preferred political party. Taking advantage of a minor disagreement between supporters of the APC and PDP, the hoodlums unleashed their fury on Segun Showunmi. It was only through the prompt intervention of armed security operatives, including the police, DSS, and NSCDC, that the situation was brought under control and the attackers dispersed.

As a result of this disturbing incident, security forces were forced to clear the court premises of all political supporters. The road leading to the court was also barricaded, causing disruption to vehicular movements in the vicinity. This unfortunate event highlights the alarming impunity with which motor park touts, miscreants, and thugs operate in the state under the current administration, evading punishment for their actions.
