The Kogi State Government has accused supporters of Alh. Muritala Yakubu Ajaka, the Social Democratic Party (SDP) governorship candidate, of blocking and attacking the convoy of Governor Yahaya Bello. The incident, which occurred near the Naval Base, resulted in several injuries. The government swiftly responded, emphasizing the importance of maintaining law and order.

Kingsley Femi Fanwo, the Commissioner for Information and Communications, released a statement detailing the incident. According to the statement, Ajaka’s convoy blocked the road upon sighting Governor Bello’s convoy, after which armed thugs associated with Ajaka began shooting sporadically. The Governor emerged unharmed, but some of his security aides and other staff sustained injuries and were promptly taken to medical facilities for treatment.

The Kogi State government called for calm among its residents, assuring them that security agencies were in full control and actively working to apprehend the individuals responsible for the attack. The government pledged to uphold law and order, vowing to bring the attackers to justice. Governor Bello explicitly warned members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) against engaging in any retaliatory actions, emphasizing that any form of insecurity would be met with severe consequences.

Despite efforts to obtain Ajaka’s perspective on the matter, LEADERSHIP was unable to reach him for comment at the time of publication.

The Kogi State Government’s swift response to the attack on Governor Bello’s convoy demonstrates its commitment to ensuring the safety and security of its residents. By condemning the incident and vowing to bring the culprits to justice, the government aims to maintain peace and order in the state. The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of upholding law and order in the political landscape to foster a peaceful and secure environment for all citizens.
