Incoming Kano Governor vows to launch investigation into Ganduje’s N241bn debt

Must read

Abba Kabir Yusuf, the governor-elect of Kano State, has expressed his determination to delve into the N241 billion debt left behind by outgoing Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje’s administration. The handover notes provided by Ganduje, conveyed through the outgoing Secretary to the State Government (SSG), were deemed inadequate and lacking in detail, according to Yusuf.

Yusuf criticized Ganduje for deviating from established democratic practices by leaving the state without personally handing over the reins of the state government to him. Expressing dissatisfaction with the meager content of the handover notes and the transition committee report, Yusuf asserted that as representatives of the state, they couldn’t refuse the information received. However, he emphasized that they would thoroughly scrutinize the materials and take appropriate action based on their level of satisfaction.

The new governor expressed his distress over the staggering debt profile of over N241 billion left by the previous administration. Yusuf raised concerns about the source of funds to address this substantial debt, highlighting the inadequacy of the Internal Generated Revenue (IGR) and the revenue generated through the Kano Internal Revenue Service. He questioned the excessive use of consultants and referred to them as conduits for draining the resources of the people of Kano state. Yusuf emphasized his determination to address these issues and stated his dissatisfaction with the current state of affairs.

Yusuf concluded his statement by praying for appropriate recompense from Almighty Allah for Ganduje’s actions during his tenure. He reaffirmed his commitment to serve the state diligently, assuring that his administration would focus on working for the betterment of the people. With the grace of Allah, Yusuf expressed confidence in achieving their goals and objectives within the next four years, emphasizing their intent to work honestly without engaging in corruption or land grabbing.
