Woman kidnaps daughter, demands ransom from husband

Kano police have arrested a 25-year-old woman, Rahama Sulaiman, for kidnapping her six-year-old daughter, Hafsat Kabiru. The suspect allegedly demanded N3 million ransom from her ex-husband to release their child.

According to the Commissioner of Police, Muhammad Usaini Gumel, the woman took her daughter to a nearby relative in Madobi under the guise of travel. Gumel added that the husband had reported the matter to the police, and that in the course of the investigation, the child was rescued. The police commissioner went on to say that the wife, who had earlier been divorced, confessed to having planned the kidnapping of her daughter.

During the parade of the suspect and other criminals at the Kano Police Command headquarters, the accused said her ex-husband did not give her money to feed the children for over 10 months. She claimed to have committed the crime to raise money to take care of their children.

The suspect stated that she gave her husband the phone number of the man who would receive the ransom, after calling him to inform him that their daughter was missing. The woman expressed regret over her actions and announced that she had reconciled with her husband.

The Kano State Police Command paraded other criminals, including drug dealers and kidnappers, and recovered over 600 parcels of Indian hemp. The police commissioner announced that all suspects would be charged after investigation.
