The Edo State Police Command has arrested two officers, a Naval officer identified as Ibrahim Adamu, 25, and a Correctional Service officer named Abdullahi Abdulwahab, 26, for their involvement in car snatching and armed robbery. The suspects were arrested in Army uniforms by a team of police officers while acting on credible information in Ekpoma, Edo State.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the State, SP Chidi Nwabuzor, the suspects attacked the driver of an unregistered C300 Mercedes Benz car in Sapele, Delta State and snatched the car from him, forcing him to transfer N400,000 to their bank account. They were taking the vehicle to an Alhaji in Abuja for sale when they were arrested.

The suspects have confessed to the crime and claimed to be personnel of the Nigerian Navy and Correctional Service, respectively. The police officers recovered the vehicle and military uniforms from the suspects.

Ibrahim Adamu, who was recruited into the Nigeria Navy in 2019, admitted to stealing the Mercedes Benz C300 car in Delta State. He said he recruited his accomplice, Abdullahi, a Correctional officer based in Kaduna State, to join him in the operation that will bring money to them. Adamu added that he and his accomplice hired a tricycle from Warri to Sapele for the operation.

During the operation, the victim refused to stop his vehicle, which led to a pursuit that ended in a village where the suspects stopped the vehicle and forced the driver to transfer N400,000 to their bank account. They were arrested while driving the vehicle to Abuja.

The suspects have been arrested and are currently in custody. They will be charged to court for their alleged crimes. The Edo State Police Command has advised members of the public to be cautious and vigilant to avoid being victims of criminal activities
