Must read

Kwara state Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service, has collected over N3.566b as revenue between January and March this year alone.

The Area Comptroller of the command, Kehinde Dehinde Ilesanmi, disclosed this at his maiden press briefing at the command’s headquarters in Ilorin on Wednesday .

He said the amount surpassed last year’s revenue collected within the same period by N779,992,680.

Kehinde further disclosed that smuggled goods worth N34.7m were seized by the command within the period under review .

The seized goods included 873 kegs of petrol of 25 litres each, six units of used vehicles of different types, 451 bags of foreign parboiled rice of 50 kilograms each, 23 bales of second hand clothing and one motorcycle used in conveying petrol.

The comptroller warned smugglers to keep away from the state command’s watch or be ready to face the full wrath of the law.

Kehinde declared that “the command under my leadership will not negotiate the CGC’s zero tolerance to acts of economic sabotage.

“Smuggling in whatever form is an act of economic sabotage and the command would ensure that it pursues smugglers to their trenches,” he added.

Kehinde condemned unscrupulous elements who remain hell bent in thwarting all measures put in place to improve Nigeria’s economy by engaging in smuggling activities.
