NLC vows to take action against AEDC for high tariff, epileptic power supply in Nasarawa

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Nasarawa State has threatened to take action against the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) over its high tariff and poor power supply in the state. The NLC has given AEDC an ultimatum to review its tariff downward and address the epileptic power supply situation in Lafia, the state capital, or face the wrath of the workers in the state.

Comr. Ayuba Oko, the State Chairman of Congress, stated that the billing system must be commensurate with the power supplied to consumers in view of the current economic reality in the country. He further warned that if AEDC fails to address these issues, the Congress will be left with no option than to picket their offices in the state. The NLC also called on residents to be ready to join the protest if the AEDC fails to listen to its warning.

Governor Abdullahi Sule, through his Deputy, Emmanuel Akabe, said the state government had received complaints from various groups on the power supply situation and high energy tariff. He explained that the state government had already arranged a meeting with the management of AEDC in Abuja to find a way around the anomaly. The governor urged the NLC and members of the public to remain calm, as the problem would soon be addressed.

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in the state, at its recent congress, expressed concern over the development. Alhaji Salihu Madaki, the Chairman of NUJ, promised that the union would liaise with sister trade unions to take appropriate and urgent action against the situation.

The NLC has vowed to take action against the AEDC if it fails to address the high tariff and epileptic power supply in Nasarawa State. The state government has also promised to intervene and find a way around the anomaly. It is hoped that the situation will be resolved amicably to the satisfaction of all parties involved
