On April 21, 2023, Taofeek Adeagbo reportedly killed his father in Tede, Atisbo Local Government Area of Oyo State. Operatives of the Oyo State Police Command have arrested Taofeek, 18, for the murder of his father and have detained his mother, Rashidat, for concealing the crime.

According to the police spokesperson, Adewale Osifeso, Taofeek reported the incident at the Tede Divisional Police Headquarters on April 21, 2023. He claimed that when he woke up at around 6 a.m., he found his father dead in the compound with a serious mark of violence on his forehead. Preliminary investigations revealed that Taofeek killed his father by striking him on the head with an iron rod while he was sleeping.

Taofeek has since confessed to the crime, stating that his mother, Rashidat, was aware of the murder and helped him conceal the information. The police arrested Rashidat after Taofeek’s confession.

While speaking to newsmen, Rashidat claimed that she woke up to see her husband’s lifeless body on the floor. She said that she raised an alarm and that people gathered in their compound. She claimed that Taofeek had gone out to inform family members of his father’s death. Rashidat also stated that although she had seven children with her late husband, they usually quarreled, but she would never wish him dead.

The combined team of police officers asked for all the children, but Rashidat thought Taofeek had not returned. It was discovered later that Taofeek was hiding under the bed. She asked Taofeek whether he knew anything about the death of his father, and he confessed to the murder.

The suspects were paraded alongside 23 others in Ibadan on Friday. The police have promised to conduct further investigations into the matter to ensure justice for the deceased. The suspects will be charged to court and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
